What if, on Thanksgiving morning after breakfast, you could pile all the kids in the house around a couple tables in the basement or back room and keep them occupied for hours without electronics? Wouldn’t that make for a happier Thanksgiving meal prep period? Depending on the children and their personalities, a stack of thanksgiving coloring pictures and Thanksgiving celebration puzzles and games and other Thanksgiving printable activities might go a long way in keeping peace in the house. Add a big box or two of markers, paper, and printer ink to your shopping list, and start printing!
It’s not a foolproof method of keeping kids occupied – like I said it depends on the kids. If you have a houseful of rambunctious boys running around, you might be better off packing them off to the outdoors for some good old touch football first, before you sit them at the table with the this Thanksgiving coloring picture and snacks for their hungry bellies still waiting on turkey. Even twenty minutes of peace is worth something at this point!
If on the other hand you have a passel of artistic kids, you might want to add a stash of “maker” supplies like colorful papers, glue, scissors, stickers, and a variety of art supplies to your table. Our free Thanksgiving coloring picture linked at the bottom of this post is even perfect for watercolors or oil pastels!
